Edwin was born March 24, 1931 in Eddyville, Iowa to Emil and Johannah (Keegel) Kraber. He was a member of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Kathryn May Estes on June 8, 1955. They were blessed with six children: Gail, Ron, Linda, Gary, Ruth, and John.

Edwin was a farmer all his life. He also worked for the Albia Sale Barn for over 30 years. He enjoyed coon hunting, participating in the local saddle club, and riding mules. He also loved watching his grandchildren play sports, along with spending time with all of his family.

Edwin passed away at his home outside of Albia on August 22, 2009. He was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, John Jay; one granddaughter, Kathryn; one brother, Emil, Jr.; and one sister, Bonnie Rebarcak.

Edwin is survived by: his five children, Gail (Jeff) Maddy of Albia, Ron Kraber of Blakesburg, Linda Kraber of Albia, Gary (Jewel) Kraber of Prole, and Ruth (Gene) Kraber-Lendt of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren, Brian, Amy, Eric, and Jesse Maddy; Michael and John Kraber; Shawna Kraber; Ray, Eddy, and Ashley Kraber; Adam, Eric, Rachel, and Nathan Lendt; and Holli Piagentini; seven great grandchildren; and siblings: Ellen Wright of Springfield, Missouri; Casey Ann Dowd of Moravia; Mary Brennam of Des Moines; Joanna Gladson of Des Moines; Agnes Fields of Rock Hill, SC; George Kraber of Bussey; Connie Kraber of Oskaloosa; Lawrence Kraber of Eddyville; and Clarence Kraber of Ottumwa.
